In the Manhasset School District every student attends music class twice a week.  The fourth grade students will learn a vast array of material throughout the school year, which will expand their musical development.  As per the Manhasset Music Curriculum and the National Standards for Music Education, the students will learn new musical concepts by singing, playing the Orff instruments, moving, creating, improvising, and listening.  Please note that the Fourth Grade Spring Concert will be on Friday, May 17th at 9:15 AM.  The concert will feature the 4th Grade Chorus.   Please find listed below some of the objectives and music pieces we will cover over the next month.

This month the 4th grade students are learning about syncopation. Each class learned the song, "Don't Let the Wind" which incorporates syncopated rhythms. Then they created instrumental sound carpets based on each of the four seasons. Please listen below.

Last month in music we created an instrumental piece which supported an original poem. The students took the poem which was a haiku, a form of Japanese poetry written in seventeen syllables, divided into three lines of five, seven, and five syllables, and added contrasting sections (rondo form).  Each group choose a theme about snow and added instruments, rhythm and dynamics by working as a team. Please listen to each composition below.
