• Science Labs Renovation Update

While preparing its Secondary School science wing for planned renovations, the District identified materials contained in a chemical storage closet within a Secondary School science office that were slated for offsite storage or disposal.  Certain of these materials were identified as low-level radioactive materials.  Out of an abundance of caution, the District had the materials professionally removed, analyzed and disposed of by specialists.  The chemical storage closet and surrounding areas were tested by these specialists, both before and after removal of the materials. The radiation levels indicated in the test results were consistent with normal background radiation levels that naturally occur in everyday general settings.
