Dear Elementary Families,

This year, Manhasset is introducing an updated K–6 report card designed to provide families with clearer, more consistent information about student learning and growth.

The new report card reflects a standards-based approach, focusing on students’ progress toward grade-level expectations. It provides more specific feedback across academic areas while also highlighting important Readiness to Learn skills such as independence, organization, collaboration, perseverance, and the ability to apply feedback.

Student progress will be determined using multiple measures, including assessments, classwork, projects, writing, observations, discussions, and other evidence of learning, to provide a more complete picture of each child’s progress.

We are grateful for the thoughtful review and input from faculty, curriculum specialists, and parents throughout the 2025–26 school year that supported this complex and important work. Teachers will begin utilizing these new grading parameters in September 2026, with ongoing staff development throughout the 2026–27 school year to support a strong and consistent rollout across classrooms, grade levels, and schools.

Our goal is not simply to report a grade, but to communicate learning clearly to help families understand what their child is expected to learn, how they are progressing, and where they can continue to grow.
