Welcome to la classe d'italiano!  Throughout the academic year, students will be involved in a wide range of differentiated activities that will conform to the NYS, ACTFL, and Common Core Learning Standards.  The instructional methods will be largely student-oriented, encouraging participation and higher-order thinking.

There are many areas to the website that I know you will find great value in. My goal is to make the website not just a tool for me, as the teacher, to connect with parents, but also a learning tool and resource for the students.

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS! MANDATORY ROSETTA STONE IS DUE:

UNDER THE ROSETTA STONE/RESOURCES SECTION OF THE WEBSITE YOU WILL FIND EXACT INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING PRINTING AND SUBMITTING YOUR ROSETTA STONE REPORT.

    AUGURI! CONGRATULATIONS! 2019

Please join me in congratulating senior, Alexis Gemma Powers, as she has been chosen as the recipient of the AATI Long Island 2019 Giovanna Morabito Memorial Scholarship for excellence in Italian studies.  Alexis was nominated based on her superior language achievement and also created a video project as part of her application process.

Additionally, several students are being commended for their performance on the 2019 National Italian Exam.  The outstanding performance of these Italian learners in the national competition brings honor to their school, their district, and their Italian program.  They are recognized as winners amongst the 5,500 students who participated in the exam.  Winner designations are as follows: Gold- Gabriella D’Angelo, Ava Klissouras, Lea Klissouras, Matthew Coletti, Jillian Holweger, Grace Lerian, Aleah Tishler Silver- Taylor Fox, Alexandra Abrams, Giulia DiRaimo, Eric Holm, Rachel, O’Day, Sophia Pappas, Laura Phelan, Nicole Sciarrino, Matthew Viola, Mia Krishnamurthy Bronze-Olivia Rainson

It is also my pleasure to announce that three of our AP Italian students have been chosen as winners of the "La Resistenza in Cucina" (The Resistance in the Kitchen) video project sponsored by the Italian American Committee on Education (IACE).  In class, students analyzed realia and authentic materials from post World War II Italy which were relevant during the time the Italian constitution was ratified.  Below you will find the students' names and their video as well as some background information regarding the project.  I am particularly impressed with how these students constructed insightful connections between their own community and cultures and the theme of the video; a skill which is essential for success on the AP exam.  Students received their prize and recognition at an IACE sponsored dinner on November 19th at 6PM at the Italian Cultural Institute in New York.  The dinner was inspired by foods and recipes of la Resistenza.
