The Phoenix Literary Magazine Wins First Place in National Contest

Manhasset Secondary School is proud to announce that the 2024 issue of the school’s art and literature magazine, The Phoenix, has won first place in the American Scholastic Association literary magazine contest.

Co-advisors Candyce Pelfrey-Kennedy and Robert Novak were proud to announce this exciting honor to their students. “The Phoenix art and literature magazine has been a tradition at Manhasset since the 1950s,” said Ms. Pelfrey-Kennedy. “We are so proud to carry on this tradition and work with students who love to express themselves with art and the written word.”

The mission of The Phoenix is to provide an outlet for Manhasset Secondary School students to create, read, view and edit original literary and artistic works. Over the decades since it was first published, the magazine has been honored with numerous awards and continues to be a cherished creative outlet for students and a source of pride for the Manhasset community.
