At the Jan. 15 meeting, the Manhasset Board of Education proudly continued a cherished tradition by presenting awards that recognize individuals who exemplify excellence, resilience and a deep commitment to our school community.
Dr. William A. Shine Student Awards

The Dr. William A. Shine Awards honor the legacy of our former Superintendent, whose leadership championed opportunity, equity and the belief in the transformative power of education. Milan and Matthew were recognized for their perseverance, academic dedication, leadership and commitment to serving others – demonstrating the very ideals Dr. Shine stood for.
Dr. William A. Shine Humanitarian Award
- Patricia Master
With a remarkable 45-year career in education and a lifetime of service, Ms. Master was honored for her unwavering dedication to children and families through teaching, volunteering and her ongoing work with Adventures in Learning. Her compassion, generosity and commitment continue to positively impact countless lives.
Maggie Award
- Beth Miller
Named in honor of longtime educator and community advocate Maggie Grundman, this award recognizes extraordinary service to the children of the Spinney Hill community. Beth Miller was celebrated for more than a decade of dedication to Adventures in Learning, as both a teacher and volunteer, and for her broader service across Manhasset organizations.
