Manhasset Board of Education Honors Students and Music Program
At the Dec. 18 meeting, the Manhasset Board of Education proudly recognized outstanding students and celebrated the district’s excellence in music education.
The meeting began with the presentation of the New York State School Music Association Presidential Citation Award, the highest honor for music education programs. Dr. Joseph Owens, Director of Fine and Performing Arts, shared that the award recognizes the district’s K–12 music program for its excellence and positive impact on students and the community.
Dr. Owens highlighted recent achievements, including the elementary school performance at Radio City Music Hall and students’ participation in Broadway-quality productions and professional concerts. He also noted that the award reflects the dedication of teachers, students and parents, as well as the strong support from the Manhasset community.
The official citation reads:
“The New York State School Music Association Presidential Citation Award is presented to the Manhasset Union Free School District…for the positive impact of its exemplary music program upon the lives of its students and the community it serves.” — Ed Sherillo, NYSSMA President, December 2025.
The Board also honored Munsey Park Elementary School Student Ambassadors, who exemplify leadership and kindness in welcoming new students and families. Principal Chad Altman praised the students for their confidence, poise and public-speaking skills, acknowledging them as strong representatives of the school and the community.
The Board celebrated these achievements with applause and photos, underscoring the district’s commitment to recognizing student excellence and fostering vibrant arts programs.
