Manhasset Educators Named New York State Master Teachers

After an extensive and competitive application process, math teachers Derek Jones and Laura Petras and physics teacher Robert Krakehl have been selected as New York State Master Teachers, a prestigious distinction that recognizes outstanding STEM educators from across the state.

The New York State Master Teacher Program brings together exceptional K-12 STEM teachers and counselors into a collaborative statewide network dedicated to excellence and impact. Through the program, Master Teachers deepen their expertise across key knowledge domains, co-create high-quality professional learning opportunities and mentor fellow educators as well as pre-service teachers and counselors. Their work enhances student engagement in STEM, supports pathways to future careers and promotes the sharing of best practices across schools and districts.

As educational leaders, Master Teachers help shape the future of teaching and learning in New York State by uplifting the profession, inspiring the next generation of learners and advancing equity and innovation in STEM education.

Lauren Tallarine, Director of Math & Business, shared, “These individuals have always been recognized within Manhasset Secondary School as dedicated visionaries committed to student success. This is a well-deserved opportunity for professional growth and connection. It is wonderful to see the talent of Mr. Jones, Mr. Krakehl and Mrs. Petras recognized beyond our Manhasset community.”

Manhasset School District congratulates Mr. Jones, Mr. Krakehl and Mrs. Petras on this outstanding achievement and celebrates their continued leadership and impact in STEM education.
