Manhasset Public Schools Welcomes Staff Back During Annual Superintendent’s Day Presentation

Manhasset School District officially kicked off the school year as faculty, staff and administrators gathered on August 26 for the annual Superintendent’s Day address.

Following a performance of the National Anthem by The Kinsmen, under the direction of Mr. Berry, Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Christopher Pellettieri welcomed educators back with his trademark humor and family anecdotes, accompanied by a message focused on district priorities, facility enhancements and collaborative culture.

Key District Priorities & Strategic Focus

  • Mental Health & Student Wellness: Deepening community partnerships to support emotional health and overall wellness across all grade levels.
  • Screen Value Over Screen Time: Transitioning away from passive digital distractions—such as casual games during recess or reading periods—in favor of high-value instructional technology.
  • Academic Innovation & Curriculum: Launching new course offerings across financial literacy, STEM/math, social studies and Chinese, while expanding support for the Seal of Civic Readiness.
  • Targeted Professional Learning: Expanding educator training focused on artificial intelligence in education, the science of reading and high-fidelity curriculum implementation.
  • Community & Institutional Partnerships: Strengthening ongoing work with the Manhasset SCA, the Economic Opportunity Center, Syracuse University, Molloy University and RIT.

District-Wide Facilities & Security Enhancements

  • Installed new entry light security systems at elementary schools and added dedicated security staff.
  • Upgraded secondary school spaces, including new staff restrooms, renovated athletic hallways and updated meeting rooms.
  • Modernized high school Virtual Enterprise business classrooms with over $86,000 in dedicated community support.
  • Removed parking lot trailer units to restore 13 additional staff parking spaces.

Board of Education & Community Remarks

Speaking on behalf of the Board of Education, Board President Dr. Nadia Giannopoulos thanked teachers, administrators, custodians and support staff for their dedication. Emphasizing Dr. Pellettieri’s guiding principle, "Wherever I go, I try to leave the place better than when I found it," the Dr. Giannopoulos encouraged staff to focus on self-growth and positive daily interactions with students and colleagues.

The presentation concluded with greetings from union leadership and an introduction to an upcoming voluntary employee wellness initiative with Acclaimed Mobile Health. Starting the week of October 16, district staff will have on-site access to proactive physicals, diagnostic ultrasounds and flu shots.

As the morning wrapped up, an unmistakable surge of energy and optimism filled the auditorium, leaving educators recharged, connected and eager to welcome students back for another exceptional school year.
