Board of Ed Recognizes Model UN Club and Acknowledges Community Gifts
At the June 17 meeting, the Manhasset Board of Education took time to recognize students for their Model UN success and accepted generous donations from the community that will help increase security and develop an outdoor space at Manhasset Secondary School.
Fourteen Model UN students from Manhasset Secondary School were honored for earning awards at two prestigious conferences, the Columbia Educational Simulations, held at Columbia University in the Fall, and the Herricks Model UN Conference, which took place in the Spring at Hofstra University.
Model UN club members recognized were Lucine Ciamician, William Conkling, Liam Connollly, Chloe Eng, Colin Hairabedian, Loic Hairabedian, Sophia Kiosses, Alexandra Kong, Eliana Linder, William Nielsen, Lucas Pai, Nathaniel Seibert, Belen Vazquez and Arjun Wanchoo.
The Board also gratefully acknowledged and accepted three generous gifts from the community that will improve security and provide outdoor staff seating at Manhasset Secondary School.
Members of the Tower Foundation of Manhasset presented a check for $67,119.30 to the Board, which will partially fund adaptation of the ScholarChip school security and student attendance management initiative, including a new student swipe system and visitor management system at the Manhasset Secondary School campus.
Additionally, members of the Manhasset SCA and Class of 2023 Student Government alumni announced donations that will fund the establishment of an outdoor staff seating area at Manhasset Secondary School. The gifts gratefully acknowledged and accepted by the board at the meeting include $25,771 from Manhasset SCA and $5,000 from the Class of 2023 Student Government alumni.
