Shelter Rock Second Graders Dig for Dinos
Shelter Rock Second Graders Dig for Dinos
Ms. Benisatto's class joined Mr. O'Brien in the Shelter Rock Science Lab for the annual second grade Dino Dig.
During the first lab, the students learned about different types of fossils including body, trace, mold and cast. Each student created a model fossil using clay, miniature dinosaur skeletons and plaster of Paris.
During the next science lab, the students learned how paleontologists excavate fossils from dig sites and reconstruct the fossils for display in museums. Next the students worked together to "dig" for their fossils. Their location was documented on a grid and each dinosaur fossil was identified.
