Transportation Services for Non-Public Schools
New York State Education Law and Manhasset Board of Education policy require that a parent or guardian of a resident student planning to attend a non-public school during the 2017-2018 school year who wishes to receive transportation services must submit an application for such services to their school district of residence on or before April 1st 2017. Failure to submit such application prior to the April 1st deadline will result in a denial of the request for transportation. CLICK HERE for further information.
At the June 2nd Manhasset Board of Education meeting, the board awarded the home to school, field trips, athletic trips and summer transportation 2016-2017 contracts to Huntington Coach. The new contract will result in an incremental cost of 10% because of the required relocation of the Huntington Coach buses from the Town of North Hempstead’s Bar Beach properties and the resulting increased costs associated with Huntington Coach’s acquisition of a replacement property.
Huntington Coach has been the district’s primary transporter since the 2005-2006 school year, when the district’s voters made the decision to move from an in-district operation to Huntington Coach. During the 45 minute presentation and ensuing discussion, district administration and the board acknowledged the exemplary service that Huntington Coach has provided over the past eleven years. In particular, the district noted Huntington Coach’s emphasis on safety, their state-of-the-art award winning green fleet, and video cameras on all their vehicles. Efficient and safe service has been provided within tightly controlled costs, as evidenced by the average annual increase of 1.74% over the same period. The district’s projected 2015-2016 transportation costs remain below those budgeted in 2005-2006, without even factoring in the costs that would have been incurred for the district to purchase a state of the art fleet and video cameras.
