Civility, Citizenship and Character Education
The Board of Education (“Board”) of the Manhasset School District (“District”) is committed to providing an educational and work environment that promotes respect, dignity and equality for all. To this end, the Board will ensure that all students in grades kindergarten through 12 receive instruction on civility, citizenship and character education. Such instruction must include the principles of honesty, tolerance, personal responsibility, respect for others, observance of laws and rules, courtesy, dignity and other traits that will enhance the quality of the students’ experiences in, and contributions to, the community.
For these purposes, instruction on tolerance, respect for others and dignity must include, but is not limited to, awareness and sensitivity to discrimination or harassment and civility in the relations of people of different races, weights, national origins, ethnic groups, religions, religious practices, mental or physical abilities, sexual orientations, genders and sexes.
