Message from the Superintendent - June 12, 2020

June 12, 2020

Dear Manhasset Families,

Like many across our country, I have been reflecting on the national and world events of the past several weeks. On Saturday, June 6, 2020, I joined hundreds of Manhasset residents in support of dignity and justice for all as part of a peaceful march through our community. We marched to lend our voices to raise awareness of the systemic racism that exists in our society.

In this moment, we must examine and take purposeful action to improve a number of domains, including but not limited to curriculum, school culture, and hiring practices. As educators, we must ensure that our students’ education celebrates diversity, provides an inclusive environment, and promotes respect for others regardless of skin color, sexual orientation, religion or country of origin.

While we have taken many actions over the past number of years to promote inclusivity in our schools, there is more we can and should do. Over the next few weeks, I will be initiating a community dialogue that is focused on listening to and understanding the perspectives that currently exist. We will discuss the steps we must take to ensure that each and every one of our students has a sense of belonging and enters the world with hearts and minds that accept one another. We are committed to this work.

If you are interested in joining this discussion, please let me know by e-mailing me at or calling my office at 516-267-7705.
